Avery Higgins Hawley

Avery graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with minors in Spanish and Psychology from Indiana University in 2021. While at IU, she was an undergraduate teaching assistant and research assistant in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Avery completed an undergraduate thesis focused on linguistic competition in second-language learners and received departmental and university honors. She continued her education at The University of Texas at Dallas, receiving a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2023. Avery has experience working across a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, schools, and home health. She enjoys working with a broad range of children but especially loves preschoolers, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Avery is originally from Westfield, Indiana, but she previously called Dallas, Texas, home. She is excited to be back in Bloomington where she started her path to become a speech language pathologist. Outside of work, Avery enjoys reading, hot yoga, and hiking with her husband and dog.
